Following in the footsteps of Makur Maker, No. 1 college football recruit Korey Foreman named his top-7, which included an HBCU.

Korey Foreman, formerly a Clemson commit, is the top college football recruit in the country, considered one of the best defensive end prospects in years. The Corona, California native narrowed his list of potential schools down to seven, and although he’s heavily favored to attend Southern Cal given they’re his hometown choice, the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Oregon and Howard round out his potential colleges at this juncture.

Despite not visiting Howard, Foreman is making a statement as a 5-star talent considering a HBCU in the modern age. It was already extraordinarily rare in college basketball prior to Maker, but few highly-recruited college football players have attended an HBCU since the likes of Michael Strahan, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Deacon Jones, Steve McNair and Shannon Sharpe did so on a regular basis decades ago. Foreman could break the mold, should he choose to shock the college football landscape.

Korey Foreman revealed his top-7 schools, but is still favored to commit to Southern Cal.

Foreman has kept his decision close to the vest, with some in the 247sports insisting he’s intent on staying out West, while others insinuate a move to the SEC will allow him to live up to his potential, which is immense. USC is favored at an 88 percent margin, per the experts at 247.

“The biggest thing for me is finding a place where I’m comfortable and can be developed,” Foreman said, per 247. “I want to play with other great players as well, that’s big for me, because that’s how you get better. Right now, I’m just taking everything in and excited to go through the process here.”

For now, Foreman’s best chance to fulfill that goal would be one of the six Power-5 options he mentioned, but current events could sway him to follow in Makur’s footsteps and make a powerful statement.

Along with Foreman’s reveal, his tweet suggested he was making a statement: “I am a young black man that is happy and proud of my race. The Black Lives Matter movement is and forever will be powerful and definitely never forgotten….Be different.”

By giving Howard a legitimate shot, and potentially soon an official visit, Foreman is doing just that.
