Keith Lee defeated Adam Cole in main event at NXT.

Night one of the NXT Great American Bash featured a lot of high moments. Heading into night two, the main event was meant to cement who was the best man in NXT as Keith Lee faced off against Adam Cole in a winner-takes-all match. Not only were these two booked against each other, but there was a lot more action to enjoy up and down the card.

Mia Yim and Candice LeRae were supposed to start off the night, but Yim did not even give LeRae an opportunity to make it down to the ring. The women faced off in the second street fight in NXT history, and fight is exactly what they did.

From the very start it was clear that they were there to inflict the most damage possible on each other. The weapons came out early and everything was used as Yim and LeRae battered each other inside and out of the ring. Yim got the early advantage when she had a big moment, sending LeRae through a table outside the ring. LeRae was able to turn the tide once they got back into the ring, but things would break down again with the brawl continuing on. Yim pulled out some brass knuckles, but LeRae stole them from her. The punch with the knuckles left Yim rocked and the victim of a swinging neck breaker from the top rope onto a pile of chairs. LeRae picked up the victory but both women were left motionless in the ring.

Bronson Reed was up next as he was out for revenge against Tony Nese. Nese usually leverages his power against smaller wrestlers, but he was unable to match the strength of the 300-plus pounder in Reed. Nese put up a fight trying to outpace Reed, but the end came with a splat as Reed hit a big splash from the top rope.

Johnny Gargano and Isiah “Swerve” Scott have had issues with each other recently, which pitted them against each other on Wednesday. Both Gargano and Scott put their grappling and quickness on display in this match. Gargano took control of much of the match after some technical exchanges. Scott had his moments, but mistakes made outside the ring cost him the match. As Scott tried to get back in the ring, Gargano planted him with the One Final Beat to get the victory.

Drake Maverick teamed with Breezango in hopes of getting some revenge against Santos Escobar and his team. The teamwork shown by Legado del Fantasma took control of the majority of this match. Maverick would finally get his hands on Escobar but was unable to maintain control as he was pinned off the Phantom Driver in the middle of the ring once again.

Mercedes Martinez returns

Santana Garrett was the unfortunate women’s division member to get tagged with welcoming Mercedes Martinez back to the NXT ring. Garrett put up a little fight, but Martinez’s power and experience were on display. She crushed Garrett, hitting the Fisherman’s Buster in the middle of the ring, and taking the pin fall win.

Two champions walked into the main event with the goal of leaving with both belts. Keith Lee and Adam Cole walked in as the NXT North American and NXT champion, respectively. Lee was primed to use his strength to his advantage, but Cole was able to outsmart him early to get the upper hand. As the much smaller man, Cole had the challenge of grounding Lee, but he found the way to do it multiple times. Still, Lee was able to take control multiple times throughout the match, even landing a massive moonsault onto the leader of the Undisputed Era. Cole kept digging deep, but the end would come when Lee hit the Big Bang Catastrophe to put Cole away, securing both belts with the win.
