Sammy Watkins believes the Chiefs are going back-to-back.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the popular pick to win the Super Bowl next season, as it’s hard to find another team that has an MVP quarterback in Patrick Mahomes mixed in with a Hall of Fame coach and a solid defense. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins is drinking the KC Kool-Aid, and he thinks that no team out there can stop them on their quest to run it back.

Watkins boldly claimed on ESPN’s First Take this morning that Kansas City will repeat as champions in 2020-21, which would give Mahomes his second Super Bowl ring in three years as a starter.

Watkins is feeling really confident about Kansas City’s chances in 2020

Watkins exploded for almost 200 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, but injuries and ineffectiveness prevented him from topping 700 yards in the regular season. However, Watkins came alive in the postseason, as Mahomes kept targeting him in key situations.

It was Watkins, not Tyreek Hill or Travis Kelce, who sliced and diced Richard Sherman on a fourth-quarter drive as Kansas City took the lead over the San Francisco 49ers late in Super Bowl LIV. Watkins caught five of his six targets in that instant classic of a Super Bowl, totaling 98 yards.

With Watkins, Hill, Kelce, and Mecole Hardman all returning next year, Kansas City should be considered the betting favorite to win Super Bowl LV in Tampa.

Watkins suddenly turning into Joe Namath could tempt the football gods to slap him across the wrist in some form or fashion, but he should have every reason to feel confident about Kansas City’s chances in 2020 and beyond.

Watkins has the freedom to talk all he wants, as Mahomes might be the only quarterback in the league talented enough to consistently back up his boasts due to his mercurial play on the field.
