Kansas City Chiefs right tackle Mitchell Schwartz responded to DeSean Jackson’s anti-Semitic post via Twitter on Thursday.

Chiefs right tackle Mitchell Schwartz joined a growing chorus of players to condemn Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson’s anti-Semitic post, calling for the Jewish community and Black Lives Matter movement to stand in solidarity against prejudice.

Jackson came under fire for posting a quote which he believed belonged to Adolf Hitler promoting harmful conspiracy theories against the Jewish community. To make matters worse, the receiver later stated that his post was “taken the wrong way,” per CBS Sports, before he offered an apology.

Schwartz, who is Jewish, condemned anti-Semitic rhetoric in the aftermath of Jackson’s post, shedding light on the hatred that the Jewish community still experiences in the United States.

The Kansas City tackle’s statement was poignant to say the least, and his calls for all people to “do better” and “denounce racism and bias in all its forms” are wise words which should resonate with all those still grappling with problems of inequality and prejudice.

Schwartz was one of a handful of NFL players to release statements regarding Jackson’s post, including Steelers linebacker Zach Banner and Patriots wideout Julian Edelman, who offered to visit Washington D.C.’s Holocaust Museum and Museum of African-American History and Culture with Jackson so that the two could educate each other.

While Jackson’s hurtful comments have sparked plenty of backlash, it is unclear what action the Eagles will take in response to the situation. The team released a statement shortly after Jackson’s post, promising to have “productive and meaningful conversations with DeSean.”

While the situation appears to be far from over, more statements like Schwartz’s, which promote solidarity between oppressed groups, could go a long way in condemning hatred within the NFL community.
