Ed Orgeron has LSU football fans amped over defensive coordinator Bo Pelini.

Coach O, Bo and Scott Linehan; that’s what’s up with LSU football these days.

Ed Orgeron appeared on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff‘s webcast on Wednesday evening, touching on many subjects. One thing that was fascinating from his conversation with Reggie Bush, Joel Klatt, Matt Leinart, Urban Meyer and Rob Stone was how the LSU Tigers have gone about replacing two excellent coaches from their championship staff from the year prior.

Former LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda replaces Matt Rhule as the head coach of the Baylor Bears in the Big 12. Joining Rhule on his Carolina Panthers staff in the NFL is former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady, who will now run the offense over in Charlotte. Fortunately, Orgeron has LSU fans fired about their two new additions in Bo Pelini and Scott Linehan.

“I really believe we’re going to be better on defense,” said Orgeron. “We didn’t play to the standard that we wanted to play as an LSU defense last year. That’s reason I brought in Bo Pelini. We went to the 4-3 defense. I think we’ll be much better on defense this year.”

Ed Orgeron believes the LSU defense will be better in 2020 under Bo Pelini.

Pelini had been a defensive coordinator on the earliest LSU staffs under former head coach Les Miles. His fiery passion for coaching up players on that side of the ball translated into a criminally underrated seven-year run leading the Nebraska Cornhuskers, as well as a five-year stint leading the Youngstown State Penguins at the FCS level. It’s a big opportunity for him and Linehan.

“Yeah, Bo [Pelini] has wholesale change opportunities,” said Orgeron to Meyer. “It’s his defense. When I go in there, I’m the assistant defensive line coach. I’m going to support him every which way I can.”

“Scott Linehan has brought in some new ideas from the Detroit Lions, from the Dallas Cowboys. He and Steve [Ensminger] have full control of the offense.”

“Now, here’s what I do as a coach. I say, ‘you tell me what you’re doing, but let’s make sure we’re doing it correct and we’re accountable and holding are players playing hard and doing it the right way, just the way you did.”

With Pelini having Orgeron’s full support in switching to a 4-3, as well as Linehan coming in to complement Steve Ensminger on his offensive staff, coaching attrition doesn’t seem to be a big issue down in Baton Rouge. In fact, it should have the Bayou Bengals fired up to see what their new coaches will bring to the table in 2020.

Orgeron has us hyped to see what Pelini can do with the LSU defensive talent in the 4-3 base.
