Will 5-star linebacker Smael Mondon commit to Georgia?

Thus far for Georgia’s 2021 class, quarterback Brock Vandagriff is the lone 5-star prospect who has committed to the Bulldogs. Could the talented signal caller have some company in the near future, though?

On July 5, 5-star linebacker Smael Mondon released his Top 5, with Georgia, Florida, LSU, Tennessee and Auburn making the cut. The Bulldogs, despite having some stiff competition, are undoubtedly the favorites to win this recruiting battle.

Georgia is the favorite to land 5-star outside ‘backer Smael Mondon

The 6-3, 220-pounder is ranked the No. 2 outside ‘backer in the country and No. 26 player overall on the 247Sports composite. If you ask the experts over at 247Sports as well, they strongly believe Mondon will sign with Kirby Smart and his coaches come December.

Mondon has eight ‘Crystal Ball’ picks on 247, with all of them in Georgia’s favor. Seven of the eight picks have a high confidence level as well. It goes without saying, but Mondon would be a monster get for the Bulldogs. The Dallas, Ga. product has picked up nearly 40 offers this cycle, with many out there believing he has what it takes to be a future first-round NFL draft pick.

In 2019, Mondon was a standout running back at linebacker, while also running track. He’s a gifted athlete, no doubt about that. But, will he end up going with the Bulldogs? If he does, he’d add to an already impressive 2021 group for Smart.

As of this writing, Georgia has 10 commitments with an average rating of 93.8. Getting Mondon on board would be massive in the program’s efforts to finish with the top recruiting class in the nation for the second year in a row. Stay tuned, Bulldogs fans. One of the top uncommitted players in the country is getting closer to making his decision, and things are looking good for Georgia.
