WWE SmackDown leads into this Sunday’s PPV event.

The July 10 WWE SmackDown was the final show before Extreme Rules on Sunday. With a Pay Per View a few days away, there were several angles to push into that event. This show did just stage, setting the stage for the action set to occur Sunday evening.

The night started off with Jeff Hardy talking with the Miz and Morrison. As these segments always go, it broke down into a match between Hardy and the Miz. Hardy was all over the Miz from the start, landing his standard high-impact offense. The Miz would take over on offense when after Hardy landed a big splash from the top to the outside. Hardy rebounded and was rolling on his way to a victory until Sheamus appeared on the giant screen. Miz tried to take advantage of the moment, but Hardy reversed the pin, securing the victory for himself.

The Golden Role Models were out to the ring next as they were supposed to battle against Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross. Sasha Banks and Bayley could not get down to the ring before Cross would attack, brawling with Bayley on the ramp.

Bliss and Cross got off to an early start, beating the champions to nearly every punch. Banks and Bayley tried to bail to the outside of the ring, but that opened the opportunity for Cross to attack them both again, laying them out on the floor. Bliss found herself on the bad end of diversion tactics that led to her being on the receiving end of damage by the champions. Bliss made the tag to Cross who came in to decimate both champions. Cross’s frantic energy gave the opening for Bayley to get the pin on Cross, using the ropes for support.

Four women were featured in a karaoke contest during the show. Naomi took the victory, which angered Lacey Evans. Evans attacked Naomi and instead of waiting for next week, they got into a match right at that moment. They were getting after it, but the contest turned into an all-out brawl as Dana Brooke and Tamina both got involved, ending in a no-contest.

The New Day escape with their titles

The main event of the evening featured the New Day defending their tag team championships against the duo of Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro.

Nakamura and Cesaro took advantage of Kingston from the very start, isolating the former champion in their corner to assault him at the opening of the match. Kingston tried to mount a bit of offense of his own, but he ate a nasty European uppercut after being launched over the top rope by Big E. Kingston would continue to fight back like a champion would, but Nakamura and Cesaro did a great job keeping him away from his partner. This match would not end in a clear decision, but the extra violence came at the end when Cesaro and Nakamura would put bother members of the New Day through a table in the middle of the ring.

WWE Extreme Rules is set for this Sunday on the WWE Network. Multiple titles are on the line from both SmackDown and Monday Night Raw.
