The Baltimore Orioles have reportedly offered Yasiel Puig a contract.

With Major League Baseball action set to resume in less than two weeks, veteran outfielder Yasiel Puig, for now, will be watching Opening Day from his couch. However, one team in the AL East is interested in preventing that from happening.

According to a report, the Baltimore Orioles are interested in signing Puig to a deal. Not only that, they’ve also put a contract offer on the table and are waiting to hear back from the powerful righty. Could he be joining Baltimore before Opening Day?

Yasiel Puig could take his powerful bat to the AL East this season

Puig is best known for his six years with the Dodgers but has since suited up for the Indians and Reds. Last season, the 6-2, 240-pounder finished with 24 home runs, 84 RBI and 30 doubles. It goes without saying, but any team would be lucky to add his power to the middle of the lineup.

The fact that he hasn’t signed with a new team yet is a big surprise, but it’s clear the Orioles want to get him to town. Should he join Baltimore, you better believe the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays wouldn’t be happy to see Puig in the AL East.

However, things are still in the negotiating stages and it’s unclear how serious the two sides are in getting a deal done in the near future. Adding Puig’s bat would be huge for Baltimore, though.

With Opening Day set for July 23, the hope is Puig will land with his new team with enough time to get to camp, get some workouts in and be all set to chase the long ball early on in 2020. It might be weird picturing Puig in a Baltimore jersey, but it very well could end up happening.
