MLB power rankings: 5-1

5. New York Mets

Yes, losing Noah Syndergaard hurts, but the Mets rotation still features Jacob deGrom AND Marcus Stroman. If Rick Porcello can regain Cy Young form, or anything resembling basic decency, combined with Steven Matz’s steady hand, the Mets rotation could finish even higher on a similar list this time next year.

4. Cincinnati Reds

The Reds rotation is quietly loaded, and it’s about time we took notice. Let by Sonny Gray, Luis Castillo and Trevor Bauer, this group has an argument to be even higher on the leaderboard. By the end of 2020, I’ll be eating my words.

3. St. Louis Cardinals

With Adam Wainwright back in the fold, the Cardinals rotation might be the most balanced in all of baseball. Jack Flahery, Miles Mikolas and Dakota Hudson are all stable, and Kwan Hyun Kim could be the next Korean MLB sensation. Color us intrigued.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers

Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Julio Urias, Dustin May. Enough said. The Dodgers have enough offensive firepower that just about any rotation would due, but instead they’ve loaded up on Kershaw and a group of young arms that should keep LA among the league’s best for seasons to come.

1. Washington Nationals

The champs get the nod until someone dethrones them. With Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg and Patrick Corbin at their disposal, there is no tougher postseason matchup. Anibal Sanchez makes for a nice No. 4 also after a surprising resurgence in DC. The bullpen, as always, could use some help, but the Nats rotation was a prime reason they were in position to beat the Astros in the first place.
