Christopher Aurier, a professional footballer himself and brother to Serge Aurier, was a victim of an early morning shooting in the French city.

Just after taking the field for a victory against Arsenal, Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier has received a piece of disheartening news in the death of his brother, Christopher Aurier.

While details are scarce at the moment, Chris Aurier suffered a stomach wound after a pair of shots were fired outside a nightclub in the southwest region of the French city of Toulouse, a city where Serge Aurier spent three years of his footballing career with Toulouse FC. Local residents alerted authorities to the scene, who later found Aurier motionless while the killer had fled the area.

Aurier entered the Toulouse University Hospital at approximately 5 a.m. and was later pronounced dead. He was only 26.

Tottenham released a statement in response to the development, along with a photo in support of Serge. Serge Aurier, just a year older than his brother, came to Tottenham in 2017 and has been a key part of the club since.

"The Club is deeply saddened to confirm media reports that Serge Aurier’s brother passed away in the early hours of this morning. Everybody at the Club sends their sincerest condolences to Serge and his family. Our thoughts are with them all."

Many have reacted to the news. Kylian Mbappe, who made his way to Paris Saint-Germain after Aurier’s exit in 2017, tweeted, “Je suis avec toi,” translated as, “I am with you.”

Chris Aurier joined the Lens Academy alongside his brother and has since played with FC Gueugnon US Chantilly, and most recently, Toulouse Rodeo in France’s fifth division.
