CeeDee Lamb rocking a Dallas Cowboys No. 88 jersey is everything.

Michael Irvin dominated in the No. 88, so CeeDee Lamb has big shoes to fill with that number.

The Dallas Cowboys used the No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on the talented wide receiver from Oklahoma. While in Norman, Lamb was a two-time All-Big 12 performer and a consensus All-American in his junior season in 2019. Though he grew up outside of Houston, everybody wants to play for the Cowboys when they get to the NFL level.

Admittedly, it was a bold move for Lamb to want to wear the No. 88 jersey for the Cowboys. It is synonymous with the greatest receiver in franchise history. Irvin gave his blessing, but we’re talking about a Pro Football Hall of Famer here, one of the greatest playmakers of his generation, college or pro. Maybe wearing the No. 88 jersey is a good thing? Here’s how Lamb looks in it.

CeeDee Lamb looks like he’ll bring honor to the No. 88 jersey in the 2020s.

Because retiring jerseys isn’t something we see often in football, Irvin’s No. 88 has gone back into circulation with the Cowboys. Seemingly, every team in the NFL has one jersey number that is held sacred. The Miami Dolphins have Dan Marino’s No. 13, the Green Bay Packers have Brett Favre’s No. 4 and the Atlanta Falcons have Deion Sanders’ No. 21. We’re talking about legends here.

And that’s what Lamb hopes to be for “America’s Team”. Though he is a bit of a boom-or-bust prospect coming out of the University of Oklahoma, he has a terrific opportunity to succeed in Dallas uniform. He’ll be no better than the Cowboys’ No. 2 receiver as a rookie, as former first-round pick Amari Cooper proudly holds the honor of being Dallas’ undisputed No. 1 wideout.

With an offensive-minded head coach in Mike McCarthy, Dallas should have one of the most exciting offenses in football. Regardless of how quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract plays out, McCarthy’s offense is dripping with talent. He has two future hall of famers on the offensive line in Tyron Smith and Zack Martin, Cooper out wide and Ezekiel Elliott thriving in the backfield.

If Lamb can come in and be productive right away like Calvin Ridley was in his first two years playing alongside Julio Jones with the Falcons, he could be in for one incredible run with the Cowboys. While taking a wide receiver at No. 17 was a luxury item for the Cowboys, they couldn’t believe a player of Lamb’s caliber was still on the board, or how the Falcons passed on him.

All we know is Lamb looks ridiculously good in that No. 88 white home jersey of the Cowboys.
