5 AFC teams who could challenge the Chiefs and Ravens in 2020
There’s a target on the backs of Kansas City and Baltimore, and these teams are coming for them.
When it comes to who will represent the AFC in Super Bowl 55, there are two teams that stand above all others: The Chiefs and the Ravens.
It’s not crazy to see why they’re heavy favorites to win the conference. They were the top two teams in the AFC last year, with Baltimore finishing 14-2 and grabbing the top seed and Kansas City slotting in as the second seed after going 12-4.
Even though the path to the AFC Championship Game didn’t eventually pit the two teams against one another, there’s little reason to believe we’re not barreling towards finally getting to see that in 2020.
However, the Tennessee Titans unexpectedly threw a wrench into plans last year, which means we should be on alert for teams that could do the same this year.

The Colts surprised people in 2018, finishing with a 10-6 record and upsetting the Texans in the Wild Card round that year. Their season came to a close against the Chiefs in the Divisional Round, but many expected Indy to be a fiery competitor in 2019.
Unfortunately for Colts fans, Andrew Luck made headlines when he made the decision to retire from football at the age of 29. This threw a wrench in Indianapolis’ plans because obviously having to roll with a different quarterback just weeks before the season is set to begin is a crushing blow.
Indy was better than expected in 2019, but ultimately finished the season with a losing record at 7-9. Along the way to their 7-9 record, they did defeat the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium early on in the season and they showed glimpses of being a good team.
2020 is a new year for Indianapolis. They have a new quarterback in Philip Rivers, who signed with them over the offseason after 15 years with the Chargers, and with the AFC South always being up for grabs, there’s no reason to believe the Colts can’t turn things around and strongly contend in the AFC this year.
Rivers still has another run left in him, as we saw in the 2018 season, and that Colts defense has potential with Darius Leonard, Justin Houston, and recently acquired DeForest Buckner. Don’t rule out the Colts in 2020, folks.
The Colts host the Ravens in week nine and do not play the Chiefs in the regular season.
