Dak Prescott showed love to the Cowboys despite not getting a new contract by the deadline

On Wednesday, all eyes were on the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott to see if they’d be able to agree to a long-term extension ahead of the deadline. Unfortunately for Prescott, a new contract wasn’t agreed to despite his efforts at the last minute to try and get something done.

The superstar quarterback is surely furious with the organization for not giving him his nine-figure deal, right? Not so fast, Cowboys haters. In an interview with USA Today, Prescott took the high road and said he couldn’t be happier to be a Cowboy and is ready to get to work this season with new head coach Mike McCarthy.

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys nearly finalized an extension before the deadline

“I’m a Cowboy and couldn’t be happier,” Prescott told Jori Epstein of USA Today. “I look forward to working along Coach (Mike) McCarthy, the staff, and my teammates to be the best team we can be in pursuit to our goal of a Super Bowl.”

On Wednesday morning, NFL insider Jane Slater reported the Cowboys and Prescott nearly were able to work some magic to get an extension done. Per Slater, Dallas had made an offer of around $35 million per year, with $110 million guaranteed.

Slater said Prescott was in favor of the new offer and wanted to finalize things. Unfortunately for him and the Cowboys, they ran out of time before the hard deadline.

Prescott is now set to play the 2020 campaign under the franchise tag and will make a cool $31.4 million. It’s not what he or his reps were hoping for, but that doesn’t mean he won’t go out and do everything he can to help Dallas become a Super Bowl contender once again.

Should Prescott have another head-turning season, Jerry Jones would be wise to get a new contract done with his stud quarterback the second he’s able to do so next offseason.
