Freddie Freeman is back with the Atlanta Braves after battling COVID-19.

The Atlanta Braves were hit particularly hard by COVID-19 when it was announced earlier this month that four players had contracted the virus. The most notable of the group was All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman.

His case was so bad it reportedly caused Nick Markakis to opt out of playing this season. The news was scary and made it clear that we are still in the midst of a pandemic. Luckily, Freeman is now back with the club and appears to be healthy once again.

Atlanta Braves: Freddie Freeman cleared to return

The video shows Freeman and also teammate Touki Toussaint as both have been cleared to return to the team. Now the hope is that there aren’t any long-term negative effects for Freeman or anyone who caught the virus, even if they were asymptomatic.

The Braves have been a team in flux since the season was announced. Markakis joined Felix Hernandez in opting out. The team then dealt with Freeman contracting the virus and recently signed Yasiel Puig, only for him to announce he tested positive for COVID-19.

This may be how the 2020 season goes for teams other than the Braves as well. Small victories must be celebrated and getting Freeman back after how sick he was is something for all baseball fans to be happy about.

Freeman has made back-to-back All-Star Games and has missed a total of four total games in that span. He is a true everyday player and also a veteran leader for a young Braves team. His teammates seeing him make his triumphant return could help lift everyone’s spirits as exhibition games are set to begin this weekend.
