Mike McCarthy is trying to accomplish something no Cowboys head coach has been able to since 1996.

After 13 years as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, Mike McCarthy was relieved of his duties in the midst of the 2018 season.

It had been a good run for McCarthy during his time in Green Bay with the Packers, but one could easily argue that only being able to make it to and win one Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback was a disappointment. The Packers should have been to more than just that one Super Bowl.

If the Packers job wasn’t high profile enough, the Cowboys job will be even more high profile and the seat will get hot for McCarthy if he’s unable to get to the sport’s biggest game.

One of Dallas’ biggest problems these past few years hasn’t been their talent level. They have all kinds of talent on their roster, ranging from Ezekiel Elliott to Leighton VanderEsch to Dak Prescott to Sean Lee.

Dallas Cowboys: Can Mike McCarthy lead them back to the Super Bowl?

The biggest problem with the Cowboys has been at the head coaching spot, which was vacated by Jason Garrett until this offseason. Garrett was the king of mediocrity and during his ten years as the head coach of the Cowboys, never made it past the divisional round of the playoffs.

McCarthy, on the other hand, has been on the sidelines for big time playoff games and knows what that moment is about. He has the experience and the roster to turn the Cowboys back into the franchise we all watched in the 90s.

Another thing working in McCarthy’s favor is that the NFC East is fairly weak. The Cowboys had a shot to win the division with a 9-7 record last year, but couldn’t get the job done and finished 8-8 instead.

Mike McCarthy is the perfect head coach for the Dallas Cowboys and they wouldn’t have hired him if they didn’t think he was the right man for the job. While a Super Bowl appearance probably doesn’t happen this year, he should be able to guide them deep into the playoffs and have them close to making the big game.

Considering how long Jerry Jones kept Jason Garrett around, Mike McCarthy will get a fair shake as the Cowboys head coach and if he’s their leader for ten years, then yes, a Super Bowl title should be coming for Big D. Maybe even more than one.
