Ed Orgeron says he ‘is almost certain’ college football will be played in 2020

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is confident there will be college football this fall.

For college football fans out there, the thought of the fall coming and going without their favorite teams taking the field is a depressing thought. In recent weeks, we’ve seen multiple small conferences come out and say they’ll be moving play to the spring.

However, if you ask LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, who is known for his passion both on and off the gridiron, he’s not convinced his guys won’t be playing come September. Matter of fact, he seems downright confident the Tigers will be in action sooner than later.

"“I do know this: I believe we’re going to play,” Orgeron said via ESPN. “I’m almost certain we’re going to play.”"

Those of the words of a man who has little doubt there will be college football action coming in the near future. For those out there worried about whether or not there will be a campaign, Orgeron’s words surely are a breath of fresh air.

However, that doesn’t mean we should get too excited too quickly. The coronavirus cases have continued to spike in certain areas of the country, and multiple college programs have been forced to shut down their voluntary workouts due to players testing positive.

At this point, every single precaution and safety measure must be taken to keep student-athletes, coaches and everyone else involved with the team safe. Fortunately, recent reports have indicated a high number of teams haven’t seen many positive cases, which is promising news leading up to the potential season.

The Tigers are fresh off a national championship last year and have monster expectations once again for 2020. While many of us out there have been worried there’d be no football this fall, Orgeron looks poised to get back on the field and push for another trip to the College Football Playoff. Only time will tell if we’ll be able to see that happen.
