These five USC football players are poised for a breakout season.

Kedon Slovis was the breakout star for USC football last year, but who could be in line this year to develop into a household name?

Clay Helton might have the hottest seat in all of college football, so he’s going to go all out to show he can develop a championship-level team. If this isn’t his season, I don’t think he’s going to get another chance. So, he has every reason to get his best players in front of the camera, and I expect a lot of this roster to have a chance to ball out.

Everyone knows what’s going to drive the Trojans this season. Slovis is going to make or break this season. However, he’s not a breakout player. He’s someone on the radar and he was recently named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list. There are an insane amount of really good quarterbacks in college football this year, but there’s a chance he could outpace all of them with some stellar stats.

The pieces around Slovis are the question marks, but that can be what leads to some major breakouts. Getting the quarterback is the most important move in the Pac 12. If that is in place, everything else can work in this conference. Slovis could build up a receiving corp that’s not a household name just yet. Slovis could change that for the Trojans.

There are also some interesting pieces on defense. There’s a reason USC is one of the top two betting favorites in this division despite winning one conference title in more than 10 years. If this is going to happen, these five players need to make major contributions.
