The last piece of the Rockets puzzle has landed in Orlando.

After announcing last week that he tested positive for the coronavirus, Russell Westbrook is on-campus in Orlando, arriving earlier today.

Two negative tests are required before gaining access to the bubble. Once there, Westbrook must remain in his hotel room for two days before joining team activities. After clearing that quarantine period, the Rockets will have access to the entirety of their usual rotation, with Westbrook’s back-court mate James Harden entering Orlando last week after addressing family issues.

Speaking about Westbrook, head coach Mike D’Antoni had the following to say, per Yahoo! Sports:

"“Any time you miss a key piece like that, it makes it a little bit more difficult, but I know he’ll be ready … So on one side, we’re just anxious to get him. It’ll give everybody a little pep in their step, but there was no doubt before. The energy has been great. These guys have been practicing hard, so it’s just one step closer to being whole.”"

Currently, the Rockets hold a surprisingly low sixth seed but could jump up to the top four with a quick start in the play-in period. It is crucial Houston approaches full strength due to their notorious reputation as one of the league’s most shorthanded teams.

Russell Westbrook must be at his best when the season begins.

Fatigue has bitten Houston in the past, but they may escape that problem this year with months of rest before the restart, especially true for two overworked stars in Westbrook and Harden.

The first four games are brutal for Houston as well, facing Dallas, Milwaukee, Portland, and the Lakers. If they hope to rise through the playoff ranks, some of these tough matches must end in victories. Having Westbrook ready is a key part of coming out on top.
