Texas A&M Football: 5 bold predictions for the Aggies in 2020
4. Best newcomer — Demond Demas WR (freshman)
Following the 2019 season, the Texas A&M Aggies lost two of their top three wide receivers to the NFL. Senior, Jhamon Ausbon had a breakout year last season, catching 66 passes for 872 yards, and 5 touchdowns. And while the Aggies will be utilizing their elite talent at tight end and dual-threat talent at running back, the wide receiver number two spot is up for grabs. And there is no one better to fill those shoes than incoming freshman, Demond Demas.
It has been quite some time since Demas has stepped onto the football field as he was ruled ineligible for his senior season in high school but Demas has the talent, and the hunger to get back on the field and be an instant impact to the Texas A&M offense. Along with size, Demas brings athleticism to the Aggies and if he does break out this season, could be on his way to rewrite quite a few records in the Aggies history books.
It is a golden opportunity that most freshmen do not get to see that quickly but nonetheless, the opportunity has presented itself to Demas. A benefit for Demas transition from high school football to college football is the front end of A&M’s schedule will help ease Demas into the next level of football.
It is also going to be beneficial that Demas will be vying for the number two spot in an offense that already has a lot of weapons for quarterback Kellen Mond to throw to, but, if he makes the jump, as he should, Demas could become Mond’s favorite target at some point of the season.
