Duncan Robinson is an absolute flamethrower in his first game back

Duncan Robinson has had quite the rise to relevance with the Miami Heat. The undrafted Michigan product has become a fearless 3-point shooter and made 60 starts this season after making one in his rookie year of 2018-19.

Robinson is averaging 13.3 points per game this year and puts up an average of 8.4 3-point attempts per game. The latter is an astonishing total and shows the trust he has in his abilities. Robinson and the Heat were back on the floor Wednesday in exhibition action and he picked up right where he left off.

Duncan Robinson continues to shine

Robinson opened the game with back-to-back triples and finished the first quarter with a total of four — not bad considering he hasn’t played in a competitive game since March. Robinson was clearly not messing around during the break and could be an X-factor for the Heat in the postseason.

The Heat are currently the 4-seed in the Eastern Conference and have a good shot to rise up to third place before the playoffs begin. Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic are the three leading scorers on the team, but Robinson makes the most 3-pointers per game and his deep shot is clearly a part of the offensive plan.

There was an expectation of rust being shown as these scrimmages got underway in Orlando. But someone like Robinson, who is making a name for himself by shooting from deep, cannot afford a slow start. The early signs from Wednesday night point in a positive direction for the 26-year-old second-year player.

Robinson went from fighting for a job to being a key player on a team fighting for an NBA championship this summer. This could end up being his breakout moment if he continues to shoot like he did Wednesday night.
