Willson Contreras had some high praise for his younger brother on the Braves.

During last year’s MLB season, the Atlanta Braves put together a very good campaign and won the National League East division, beating out the Nationals by four games.

The Braves were led at the plate by first baseman Freddie Freeman who had a batting average of .295 and hit for a massive 121 RBIs. They also got production from second baseman Ozzie Albies who also hit .295 and batted in 86 runs, as well as from outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. who hit for 101 RBIs.

On top of their hitting, Atlanta got some great performances on the mound from Mike Soraka who ended the season with an ERA of 2.68. Atlanta’s pipeline of home-grown stars is expected to continue into the near future.

William Contreras could be the next great Braves catcher, per his brother

On Friday, the Braves made their 2020 MLB debut against the Mets, but it was also the debut of catcher William Contreras, the younger brother of Cubs catcher Willson Contreras.

William is currently ranked as the ninth-best prospect in the Braves system and the 22-year-old certainly has a lot of time to develop with Atlanta.

Willson was asked about his brother making his Major League debut after the Cubs opened their season on Friday against the Brewers. Willson heaped some rather substantial praise on William, saying that he thinks the Braves backstop can be better than himself.

That is pretty incredible given that Willson has been named to back-to-back All-Star squads the past two seasons and hit a career-high 24 home runs last season.

During his time in the minor leagues, William has also been able to put up good numbers, hitting for an average of .285 in the 2018 season, along with 49 RBIs and 11 home runs.

Now with the praise of Willson, Braves fans should be excited about the future of this young catcher, especially if he has the potential to be better than his All-Star caliber brother.
