After years in the league, Dion Waiters sees a difference in both himself and LeBron.

Just months ago, the Lakers signed Dion Waiters to push forward in pursuit of a Larry O’Brien trophy. The season was quickly halted thereafter due to the coronavirus, leaving Waiters waiting for his time alongside the King.

Now, the two have reunited on the floor in the NBA’s restart following a brief stint in Cleveland in 2015. Then, their relationship was a bit questionable. Now, things are a bit different for Waiters.

In a tweet from Dave McMenamin, Waiters discussed how he has changed over the course of his NBA career, saying, “At this point in my life, I just wasn’t to play basketball, take care of my family and enjoy it. Because you never know.”

The coronavirus pandemic has shaken many individual’s values and the same seems to be true for Waiters. His priorities have changed, especially from his earlier years in the NBA.

"When you’re young, you’re still trying to find yourself coming into the league. I think Bron was trying to help me with that but I was so stubborn back then. But, I understand now."

After a fast start to his NBA career, Waiters may have been resistant to LeBron’s leadership. Looking back now, Waiters appreciates James’ efforts, even if it didn’t seem so at the time, and is excited to be with him again.

Wisdom and perspective have come to both Dion Waiters and LeBron James.

LeBron’s return to Cleveland was marked by a promise, an NBA Finals victory. Now, even though the same end goal is in mind, the pressure is not, creating certain freedom that may not have existed back then.

After being known as one of the league’s most troubled players, Waiters’ change of heart has been matched by James’ change in situation. The combination of those two things may prove vital to the Lakers championship run in 2020.
