Nate Pearson is making his MLB debut soon.

The traveling roadshow that is the Buffalo/Toronto Blue Jays has plenty of young studs worth watching both in their lineup and in their starting rotation, chief among them right-handed pitcher and top prospect Nate Pearson. After weeks of consideration, the Blue Jays are ready to cut him loose and let him face MLB hitters.

Per Jamie Campbell of Sportsnet, the Blue Jays, in need of a dominant ace to accentuate a promising young lineup, will allow Pearson to make his first MLB start against the Washington Nationals this Wednesday.

Nate Pearson’s explosive fastball gives him star potential.

Pearson’s heater, which hits triple digits with regularity, allowed him to post a 2.19 ERA during his time in the minor leagues. While some have speculated his velocity makes him more attractive as a reliever than a starter, the Blue Jays feel confident in being able to refine his repertoire to the point when they can trust him with going deep into games. In a scrimmage against the Boston Red Sox, Pearson gave us a little glimpse of how good be can be in the future.

Pearson is more than just a Ricky Vaughn clone who throws the ball 100 miles-per-hour, as his slider that regularly exceeds 90 miles-per-hour and changeup that just darts away from left-handed batters goes to show that Pearson is already a complete three-pitch pitcher that should be able to handle himself against pros.

Rushing a young pitcher to the pros, especially during a haphazard, shortened 60-game season, is a good way to ruin their career if they’re not up to the task. However, Pearson’s blend of velocity, control, and strikeout stuff is exceedingly rare for someone his age, and he’s ready to unleash the full extent of his talent against unsuspecting MLB hitters.
