Pick Analysis. Los Angeles Angels. 2. player. 102. Scouting Report. AL. West

The Angels have a perpetual need for pitching, and the struggles of Shohei Ohtani in his return to the mound on Sunday isn’t making it look any better. Offseason signing Julio Teheran is working his way back after testing positive for COVID-19, with a simulated game scheduled for Tuesday, but when exactly he’ll join the starting rotation is naturally unclear.

The Angels have loaded up the lineup, and the prize of their offseason Anthony Rendon is set to make his debut Tuesday night after dealing with an oblique strain. They lost three of four to division rival Oakland to start the season, as the gap in the quality of pitching was obvious. The upcoming series against the Seattle Mariners looks like a opportunity to get well, but then the Astros are coming for a weekend series.

A 3-7 or 4-6 start is on the table if the Angels can’t get it turned around quickly, and losing a chunk of games to both the A’s and Astros would put them firmly behind the eight-ball with one-sixth of the season in the books. In a normal 162-game campaign, one-sixth of the season is 27 games.

The Angels should be looking hard at Foltynewicz , with some or all of his $6.425 million salary for this year no real object depending on the mechanics of the move (trade or waiver).
