1. 14. Pick Analysis. AL. East. Boston Red Sox. player. Scouting Report

David Price? Gone to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Mookie Betts trade. Chris Sale? Won’t pitch this season due to Tommy John surgery. Presumptive new No. 1 starter Eduardo Rodriguez? Tested positive for COVID-19, and is now dealing with complications of the virus believed to be related to his heart.

Nathan Eovaldi and Martin Perez are the names you’ll know in the Red Sox rotation right now, with Josh Osich starting as an opener Monday night and Matt Hall slated to start Tuesday night as of this writing. Zack Godley should be in the mix to start games soon, for what it’s worth. Any move to bring a starting pitcher aboard has to be on the table, including simply tapping into their player pool.

Perhaps no team needs pitching, especially starting pitching, more than the Red Sox right now. If they don’t already have the Braves on the phone regarding a possible deal for Foltynewicz on Tuesday, it would be very surprising. Waiting until the waiver process would start won’t cut it, since every game lost due to bad or overworked pitching in a 60-game season takes on greater weight.
