5-star 2022 quarterback announces Georgia and South Carolina are his finalists

The nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback for 2022 will commit to either Georgia or South Carolina.

Though the focus for Kirby Smart and his coaching staff at Georgia remains on the 2021 class, that doesn’t mean the Bulldogs haven’t been putting in major work on 2022 players as well. With recruitment, getting out to players as early as possible is the name of the game.

That’s been the exact case with 5-star quarterback Gunner Stockton. The Tiger, Ga. signal-caller has picked up more than 20 offers throughout his recruitment and is ranked the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback for his class.

Despite his National Signing Day still being well over a year away, the 6-1, 196-pounder is closing in on making his decision. So, which SEC school will get his verbal pledge?

Will Georgia land the commitment of 5-star quarterback Gunner Stockton?

On Thursday morning, Stockton announced that in order to focus on his upcoming junior campaign, he’s officially trimmed his list down to Georgia and South Carolina.

We’ll have an old fashioned SEC recruiting battle for Stockton, who had additional offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Ohio State and many others. Thus far for the ’22 group, Smart and Georgia have picked up verbal pledges from cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew and inside linebacker C.J. Washington, who are both 4-star players.

Adding Stockton to the class would obviously be a monster get for the Bulldogs, who currently hold a commitment from 5-star 2021 quarterback Brock Vandagriff. Georgia is no stranger to bringing in highly-recruited signal-callers. Will Stockton be the next player to join the list?

Stockton clearly has high interest in South Carolina as well. No decision appears to be imminent for the standout quarterback, but Georgia and South Carolina fans will undoubtedly be checking social media frequently in hopes that their program has landed the young gunslinger.
