10 greatest Green Bay Packers of all time
8. Jerry Kramer, G
Finally in 2018, Green Bay Packers’ guard Jerry Kramer became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was a key figure in the team’s dynasty of the 1960s in which the club won five NFL titles in a seven-year span. That included the first two Super Bowls when Vince Lombardi’s team bested the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders, respectively. And who could forget the Hall of Fame sideline leader being carried off the field by Kramer and his teammates?
A fourth-round pick by the club in 1958, he played for 11 seasons and not only excelled on the offensive line but did his share of kicking. While Kramer earned only three Pro Bowl invitations, he was voted All-Pro five times. And of course, he threw the critical block in the “Ice Bowl” as quarterback Bart Starr scored the game-winning touchdown in the 1967 NFL title game, propelling the club to Super Bowl II.
“I think I wanted to play, because football, there was just something about it that I responded,” said Kramer (via the Pro Football Hall of Fame). “I knew I wanted to be a part of something. I wanted to be a little different than the average kid and that really propelled me the rest of my life.”
