Cardinals-Brewers game Friday postponed after multiple positive COVID-19 tests

The St. Louis Cardinals have some COVID-19 cases in their locker room.

If St. Louis Cardinals fans thought losing Miles Mikolas for the remainder of the 2020 season with an injury was the end of their bad luck, a bombshell report from Jon Heyman has added the Cardinals to the list of MLB teams dealing with multiple COVID-19 cases.

Heyman is reporting that the Cardinals have postponed their Friday matchup against Christian Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers after the team was confirmed to have several positive COVID-19 cases.

Baseball is back, but the lack of a plan when it comes to keeping players safe from infection has already lead to an outbreak in Miami and positive cases in Philadelphia and St. Louis. Without a plan in place to combat positive tests, the league is simply canceling games.

With the Cardinals, currently 2-3 on the season, and Brewers taking the night off, six of the MLB’s 30 teams will not play today due to an outbreak of COVID-19, which makes up one-fifth of the entire league. As the NBA and MLS are celebrating returns to game action without a single positive test in their Orlando bubbles, a good chunk of the MLB is on ice due to several positive tests.

All the time Rob Manfred spent fiddling with the union about the number of games and how runners should be put on second base in extra innings could have been spent on coming up with a better plan for testing, prevention, and what happens after a positive test.
