Georgia football: 5 bold predictions for 2020
Georgia football bold prediction No. 3: Rivalry with Florida will, not shockingly, be the biggest game.
Not a shocker but the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail party between Georgia and the Florida Gators, one of the biggest rivalries in college football, always holds a ton of meaning. These two programs have an immense amount of disdain for one another and, more often than not, their meetings determine who is going to have the upper hand in the SEC East.
Whenever they meet in the 2020 season, though, it could have even more meaning than normal.
Unlike the ACC, it does seem as if the SEC is planning on keeping their two divisions intact for the conference-only schedule with the winners of each meeting in the championship game. That once again means that UGA will need to beat the Gators to get to that point.
That’s going to be an increasingly difficult task considering the improvement of Florida. Quarterback Kyle Trask gives Dan Mullen’s team immense upside and the Gators have developed far more stability overall since the head coach took over the program. Thus, they are a much tougher opponent, rivalry or not, than they have been.
Perhaps more important than that is the fact that the Bulldogs, assuming the schedule stays relatively the same, will open the season against Alabama. Though the Crimson Tide has changes to deal with, they seem in better position to win that type of game. However, Georgia can still win the East if they topple rival Florida to get another shot at Bama. Their larger aspirations depend on how they fare against the Gators.
