Georgia football: 5 bold predictions for 2020
Georgia football bold prediction No. 1: Dawgs go 9-1, win SEC title, make College Football Playoff
Jamie Newman is not a bonafide Heisman Trophy candidate as some people have seemingly tried to make him out to be in the preseason. Furthermore, Georgia has some major question marks that need to be answered. Despite all of that, the Bulldogs are in a position where they can have another real attempt to get over the hump they’ve yet to clear prior to this season.
My expectations are that the Bulldogs lose the season-opener against Alabama, as mentioned. There is more continuity and experience on the Crimson Tide roster to hit the ground running and have fewer growing pains immediately in the season than the Bulldogs. But from that point on, for my money, Georgia is the other top-tier team in the SEC.
Florida is one the rise as a program under Mullen but I don’t believe they can beat Georgia on a neutral field right now barring the Bulldogs shooting themselves in the foot. Moreover, if the Bulldogs figure out the offense with Newman and Monken — which they’re capable of — there’s no other team that can compete with them in the conference if they have it going.
Subsequently, their only SEC loss will be against Bama, which will then put them in the SEC Championship Game with a rematch against the Tide. And without the benefit of the season-opener favoring Saban’s team, the Bulldogs will be able to pick up a revenge win, get over the Alabama hump and punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff.
