Oklahoma football breakout candidate No. 4: Theo Wease, WR

Replacing CeeDee Lamb was always going to be a tall task after what the wide receiver did last season. He was one of the best players at the position in the country, which is why the now-Dallas Cowboy was a surefire first-round pick. Last season alone, he came up with team-highs in catches (62), yards (1,327) and receiving touchdowns (14). Now the Sooners must replace that in some ways.

Charleston Rambo will obviously play a big part in the offense but he’s a different player than Lamb was, more suited as a deep threat rather than a run-after-catch star. And Jadon Haselwood could’ve been the guy but an injury is likely to keep the highly touted recruit out for the entire 2020 season. That now opens the door for the lesser-known but still incredibly talented Theo Wease.

Wease may be lesser-known but it’s not because of his recruiting profile, rather just being behind Haselwood. He was the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2019 recruiting class and the No. 21 overall prospect. And as a freshman, he flashed his ability. In six appearances, the 6-foot-3, 201-pounder came up with eight catches for 136 yards and two scores.

Built more in the mold of the player that Lamb was for this offense, Wease should be in line for a monster season. He and Rattler have potentially developed a rapport with one another in practice given that they came to Norman together and that connection could prove huge for Wease establishing himself as the next big thing at wide receiver for OU.
