Per a report, Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez is among the players who tested positive for coronavirus

Things have gone from bad to worse for the St. Louis Cardinals throughout the weekend. On Friday, it was announced two players had tested positive for the coronavirus, leading to the team’s showdown with the Brewers to be postponed.

On Saturday morning, at least five additional members of the organization tested positive, with Saturday’s game also being postponed as as result.

While the identities of those who have the coronavirus have not been announced, we have learned through MLB Insider Robert Murray that stud hurler Carlos Martinez is among the players with COVID-19.

Martinez, who has been with the club since 2013, has made one start thus far in the shortened season, giving up six earned runs and two homers.

However, that outing doesn’t mean a thing right now, as the organization is undoubtedly doing everything they can to make sure he’s staying safe and can return to full health as soon as possible following his diagnosis.

Saturday’s Cardinals-Brewers game was also cancelled

St. Louis is one of several teams who has been rocked with negative coronavirus news. The Miami Marlins are now up to nearly 20 positive cases throughout the organization. The Phillies also received multiple positive tests this week and decided to pause all baseball activities until further notice.

With the Cardinals seeing their cases rise, including Martinez testing positive, it may be a little while until we see the team back in action. The last thing anyone wants is for the virus to continue to spread among players and to other teams.

We’re facing some uncertain times in the bigs right now. Unfortunately, more troubling news for players and teams could still be on the way.
