Mookie Betts proved he’s 100% worth his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The MLB season has barely begun, but last night, Mookie Betts made what will probably be the best throw we see all season. In a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the L.A. Dodgers right fielder picked up a line drive on the foul line and absolutely rocketed it to the opposite side of the field to get out a runner at third.

Most of us have seen the crazy throw from the broadcast angle, but the footage from directly behind Mookie is totally unreal. You can see exactly how daunting the distance from the field to third is, and Betts doesn’t even hesitate.

Amid COVID-19 outbreaks on several teams, this throw was a much-needed reminder of why we love baseball. The league needs to get its safety protocols in check, because missing out on the full season of Mookie cannons would be depressing. Who knows how high his ceiling could be?

Mookie Betts is a necessary distraction from our reality

Last week, Betts became one of the highest-paid players in the MLB when he signed a12-year, $365 million contract extension with the Dodgers. He was traded to the Dodgers from the Boston Red Sox earlier this year because Sox didn’t want to pay the price of his impending new contract. They should be kicking themselves for that now.

However, Betts isn’t a one-hit wonder either. He’s been a beast all over the diamond, from behind the bat to on base. He has 56 putouts and zero errors in the field, five runs scored and a .256 batting average over just 8 games so far. If he stays on track, Betts could bring home another MVP season in his first year of many with the Dodgers.
