One NHL game featured the perfect graphic.

Playing sports with no fans in attendance has been a weird experience so far in 2020. The games are still being played, but the lack of noise and reactions from fans is almost eerie.

The NHL is one league looking to spice up the games. The league is split into two bubble cities in Canada and has noise and video going at all times to make the broadcasts a little less boring. Those in charge of game presentation also have a great sense of humor, as shown by a graphic that appeared during a game Sunday night.

NHL embracing it all

That “tonight’s attendance” graphic should be put in a history museum and shown out of context in the future. Professional sports fans recognize the announcement as a normal part of any game. Arguments even break out over attendance totals and who the “real” fans are in different cities.

Now we are all stuck at home and those running the game can at least provide some jokes by poking fun at the bad crowds in the bubble. The only fans showing up on broadcasts are those at home tuning in via a video feed.

The NHL has done a great job so far providing fun games to watch. Playing in an arena provides advantages over an outdoor setting such as what MLB is working with. The ability to get creative is there and small things like pointing out the obvious lack of attendance can gain traction on social media and provide a laugh in these tough times.

Everyone involved is doing their best to put on live sporting events. There is nothing wrong with having some lighthearted fun along the way.
