Players have the option of opting out of the college football season, but Justin Fields isn’t one of those who will be doing so.

The COVID-19 pandemic has already changed the sports world as we know it and as of now, it looks like college football will be taking place this fall, albeit with some changes.

While some players don’t feel the risk is worth playing in 2020, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields hasn’t even considered not suiting up for the Buckeyes this year, but he understands where those players are coming from.

Justin Field hasn’t considered not suiting up for Ohio State

This is obviously good news for Ohio State, as Fields was sensational for them last year and could very well win the Heisman Trophy this season. After spending his freshman year on the sidelines (well, mostly) at Georgia, Fields transferred to Columbus and threw for 3,273 yards and an eye-popping 41 touchdowns, all while tossing only three interceptions.

Fields also did heavy damage with his legs, rushing for 484 yards and 10 touchdowns, proving that he’s the ultimate dual-threat quarterback. Fields’ stock might not drop much if there weren’t a season or if he chose to opt-out because as of now, he’s likely going to be the second quarterback taken in the draft.

If there is a season though, Fields could leapfrog Trevor Lawrence as the top quarterback in the draft if he can put on another spectacular show under center for the Buckeyes.

So far, there hasn’t been a ton of huge names to opt-out of the season, but there have been a few, including Rashod Bateman of Minnesota and Caleb Farley of Virginia Tech, who was the first collegiate football player to announce his decision not to play this year.

Justin Fields wanting to play in 2020 isn’t surprising because he is such a competitor. He also knows that he’s a big reason why the Buckeyes have hype surrounding them once again this year. Without him, they’d still be good, but with him, they’re a National Championship Game contender.
