It had looked for a while like winning the Europa League may well be Manchester United’s best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. However, good form following the restart has meant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have already made sure of that with a victory over Leicester on the final day of the EPL season.
United nonetheless remain the favorites to lift this trophy, and with Istanbul Basaksehir or Copenhagen awaiting in the next leg, it isn’t hard to see why.
LASK had been top of the Austrian league going into the lockdown. However, after they were found to have repeatedly breached social-distancing guidelines once training resumed, LASK were docked points, which meant that they’d slipped to second place at the restart despite not having played a game. The team, coached by former Bayern Munich defender Valerien Ismael, never recovered and ended the season fourth.
