Draftkings European Tour Golf: English Championship player selections

Draftkings has a large number of contests available for this week’s English Championship. Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!

Before I discuss my Draftkings selections let’s take a quick look at the golf course and the key player statistics that I feel are the most vital to a golfer’s success this week.

The English Championship will be played at Hanbury Manor in Hertfordshire, England. The golf course is a par 71 that measures 7,042 yards. The course features three par five holes and wide fairways. This course hosted the English Open for three years previously (1997-1999).

The key player statistics that I will be focusing this week are: GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained approach, scrambling, and putts per GIR.

Here are my player selections for the 2020 English Open!

Rasmus Hojgaard $10,600

Hojgaard arrives at this week’s event in outstanding form. To be more specific, Rasmus has three top six finishes in his last four events on the European Tour, including a second place result at the British Masters two weeks ago.

More recently, Hojgaard finished sixth at last week’s Hero Open. It should be noted that upon completion of four rounds of play at last week event, in relation to the Hero Open field, Rasmus ranked second in strokes gained approach, first in GIR (greens in regulation), first in strokes gained tee to green, and first in strokes gained off the tee.

Sam Horsfield $9,900

The 23 year old Englishman arrives at this event on the heels of two consecutive top ten finishes on the European Tour, including a win at the Hero Open last week. Some in the DFS golf community will say that Horsfield will have an expected let down this week. I disagree. I think that Horsfield is young and highly motivated. I fully expect him to play well again this week.

Oscar Lengden $7,300

Lengden has two consecutive top 13 finishes on the European Tour, including an eighth place result at the Euram Bank Open last month.

Antoine Rozner $7,700

He has three top ten finishes this season, including a second place result at Mauritius Open in December. Rozner is currently ranked 18th in GIR (greens in regulation-71.71%) on the European Tour.

Matthew Southgate $7,500

The 31 year old Englishman fired a final round 69 at last week’s Hero Open en route to an eventual 22nd place result. In relation to last week’s field at the Hero Open, upon completion of four rounds of play, Southgate ranked eighth in GIR and fifth in driving accuracy.

Ben Stow $6,700

In his last two events played on the European Tour, Stow has shot under par in seven of his eight rounds played. The young Englishman clearly likes playing golf in his home country. Stow finished tenth at the British Masters two weeks ago.
