Trey Lance could head to one of these five schools.

After leading North Dakota State to a national championship and not throwing an interception during his entire redshirt freshman season, Bison quarterback Trey Lance is expected to once again lead Matt Entz to a national title while competing for both a Walter Payton Award and a first-round draft pick.

The first two might be impossible for him to come by as sophomore, however, as the Missouri Valley Conference is expected to either cancel the 2020 football season or move it to the spring amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Transferring has to be on Lance’s mind, as going so will allow him to play in the short term and help his draft position in the long-term. These Power 5 schools need to get on the phone with Lance right now, as they could grab themselves an elite starting quarterback if they act quickly.

These five schools should all go after Trey Lance.

After molding Jordan Love into a first-round pick at Utah State, Matt Wells’ explosive offense did little to move the needle in Lubbock, as injuries at quarterback and general ineffectiveness had the usually mighty Red Raider aerial attack looking limp as they sat bowl season out in 2019. Now that Jett Duffey has left the program, Lance could transfer to Tech and instantly start in an up-tempo offense.

North Dakota State’s offense is a slow, methodical grind that only allowed Lance one game in which he threw it more than 23 times. While Wells will have Lance use his arm more, that shouldn’t be a problem given his natural strength and touch down the field. the fact that he’s a premium athlete who could lead Texas Tech in rushing in 2020 is a bonus. While Tech might not win the Big 12 with him under center, they can certainly challenge for it, a feat that isn’t possible with Alan Bowman at quarterback.
