Kawhi Leonard’s custom mask is going viral on Twitter
Kawhi Leonard’s custom mask is receiving a lot of attention.
As the NBA is attempting to successfully finish out its season in a secluded bubble in Orlando, players, coaches, and other league personnel are all highly encouraged to wear masks whenever they see fit. This has given players the opportunity to wear very unique masks in order to show off their personality.
Some players like Jrue Holiday have used wearing masks to promote equality and social justice, but other players are simply wearing strange masks, including Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard.
On Saturday afternoon, the Clippers took the court for a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Leonard sat out this game due to knee soreness, and since he was not playing he decided to wear a mask on the bench, but it was not just any regular old face-wear.
The reigning NBA Finals MVP decided to wear a custom-made mask with a mesh front piece covering his nose and mouth, but also had telephone wires as the ear pieces.
Kawhi definitely seems to have the most interesting mask of any player
New Balance does make masks with that front piece, but the telephone wires are pure Kawhi.
One question that should be asked about Leonard’s mask is where did he get those old telephone wires since those phones stopped being used about 30 years ago. Nonetheless, it is encouraging to see Kawhi be resourceful since home phones are almost never used in general, much less ones that still have wires.
Although his mask is certainly unique, it should not come as a surprise since Kawhi has a long documented history of being eccentric and a bit different than the rest of the NBA. That carries over into his trash talk where he loves to say his own personal phrases like, “board man gets paid.”
Despite the greatness of his mask, the Clippers are not able to function at full capacity without Kawhi, and they will need him if they want to make a run for the NBA Finals.
