Collin Morikawa breaks PGA Championship trophy immediately after winning it (Video)
Collin Morikawa got too excited with his first major trophy.
The 2020 PGA Championship was the first major of this bizarre golf season and it lived up to the hype. 23-year-old Collin Morikawa won it all after dominating Sunday by shooting six-under on the day.
It was his first major victory and only his third on the tour. Winning the tournament meant a proper trophy ceremony was in order. That resulted in the only part of the day where Morikawa made a mistake.

Collin Morikawa breaks the trophy
This is hilarious to watch. The young man takes it in stride and someone was there to help him put his trophy back together. While the trophy may be broken, Morikawa is still going home with nearly $2 million in winnings.
There may have been some concerns about whether a major with no fans in attendance would provide fans at home any excitement. The golfers were able to make up for the lack of noise with some great performances. Morikawa finished at 13-under and seven other golfers finished with scores of at least 10-under.
But it was Morikawa who stole the show with an amazing eagle on the 16th hole. He drove the ball within feet of the hole and nailed the putt to take an insurmountable lead. It capped off a day in which he had four birdies, one eagle, and zero bogeys. His play provided plenty of excitement for fans at home.
The top of the trophy falling off perfectly sums up 2020 in general. Any accomplishment is marred in some way but we are all making the best of everything. In this case, there is a $2 million reward in play as well.
