Here is everything you need to know ahead of Game 2 between the Colorado Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes.

The first game of the series could not have gone better for the Colorado Avalanche, winning Game 1, 3-0.  The Avalanche will look to extend their series lead to two games, while Arizona will try to even the series.

Colorado badly outplayed Arizona in Game 1, outshooting their opponents 40-14. Goalie Philipp Grubauer might not have an easier shutout his entire career. The Avs will try to repeat their Game 1 gameplan in the second game of the series. Colorado allowed the third-fewest goals in the regular season behind the strong play of Erik Johnson, Cale Makar, and Samuel Girard. If the Avalanche continues to limit the shots against, they will easily win the series.

After a playoff suspension, last season ended his tenure in Toronto, Nazem Kadri was among the best players on the ice in Game 1. Kadri scored and drove the offense for Colorado’s second line. The Avalanche decided to trade for Kadri in the off-season to bolster their second line offense. If Kadri continues to play this well in a supporting role to Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado could make a deep run in the playoffs.

Arizona has struggled to overcome the loss of leading scorer Nick Schmaltz, who is expected to miss his sixth straight game. The Coyotes finishing 21st in the NHL in goals this season and the loss of Schmaltz has made their lack of offensive firepower even more evident. While Arizona has depth at center, they do not have any creative playmakers who can drive the offense and create chances of snipers Taylor Hall and Phil Kessel.

Darcy Kuemper was great in goal in Game 1, but Arizona cannot expect to win if they give up 40 shots a game. The Coyotes need to do a better job slowing down the Colorado attack and preventing so many shots against.
