Royals slugger Whit Merrifield broke a 1-1 tie with a monster 3-run home run to left field against the Minnesota Twins.

Whenever the Kansas City Royals need someone to come up with a big hit in a key moment during a ball game, it shouldn’t come as a shock when Whit Merrifield is the one to get the job done for his teammates. From Day 1 of him rocking a Royals jersey, he’s always been able to deliver time and time again.

Such was the case of Kansas City on Saturday against the Minnesota Twins. With things tied at 1-1, Merrifield stepped up to the plate with two runners on base. He then proceeded to nearly send the ball to the moon, belting a huge 3-run homer to put the Royals up 4-1.

There was no doubt about that one, as Merrifield made some sweet contact for the dinger. As soon as he hit the ball, just about everyone on the field knew it was leaving the park.

Merrifield has been with the Royals since 2016 and has become a fan favorite. Last season, he put together an incredible campaign, posting 206 hits and 16 home runs. He also hit .302 and added 74 RBI. Thus far this season, he’s hitting .293.

On Saturday, Merrifield has proven to be quite the problem for Minnesota. His home run to break the tie, his fifth blast of the season, reminded everyone why he’s among the best players in the bigs. Everyone in Kansas City loves the man and for good reason. Whenever he’s got a bat in his hands, magic is sure to follow. Minnesota learned that the hard way with his 3-run bomb.

Next. Whit Merrifield is the most underrated star in MLB. dark
