The convicted murderer of Michael Jordan’s father granted parole.

We all heard the heartbreaking story of the murder of Michael Jordan’s father, James R. Jordan, Sr. in the recent documentary, The Last Dance, of Jordan’s life. Now news has surfaced that one of the men involved in the murder has been granted parole for his crimes.

According to TMZ, Larry Demery has been granted parole, which will happen in 2023, following his conviction. He pled guilty in 1996 to first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Jordan Sr. was killed in 1993 when he was shot while sleeping at a rest stop. His body was then tossed off a bridge and found 11 days later.

The parole comes via a Mutual Agreement Parole Program through the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission. He has reportedly participated in a scholastic and vocational program which helped to grant him parole set for Aug. 6, 2023.

Jordan retired from basketball shortly after the death of his father.

“It made me realize how short life is, how quickly things can end, how innocently,” Jordan said at the news conference announcing his retirement. “And I thought that there are times in one’s life when you have to put games aside. I wanted to give more time to my family. I’ve been very selfish about centering things on my basketball career. Now it’s time to be unselfish with them.”

Jordan has yet to speak publicly on the parole news.
