Joe Burrow is gone but his presence will be felt at LSU with Myles Brennan’s leadership
Myles Brennan is ready to lead at LSU after watching how Joe Burrow went about his business the last two seasons with the Tigers.
Myles Brennan arrived at LSU in 2017 and has put in his time with the program. The quarterback spent the last two seasons behind Joe Burrow and enters the season ready to lead the offense.
The 6-4 signal-caller has only thrown 70 total passes during his three seasons, but learning behind Burrow was an invaluable experience. That also puts a ton of pressure on Brennan, who appears to be ready for the challenge.
Myles Brennan filling Burrow’s shoes
Brennan recently spoke with the media and shared a great quote about his own leadership skills and how he’s ready to assume those responsibilities now that Burrow is in the NFL.
“I lead in everything that I did whether it as scout team or just making sure our team was ready to play on Saturday,” Brennan said, via Sports Illustrated. “I was leading no matter what I did on and off the field so it really just carried over and I just stepped into the shoes I’ve been waiting for this whole time.”
This is what LSU fans want to hear from the new starting quarterback. Brennan didn’t transfer when Burrow arrived and sticking it out paid off. This is a 21-year-old young man who understands the role he is taking on and is not shying away from expressing confidence in himself.
Being a backup quarterback has allowed Brennan to work with players on offense who also had to wait their turn to play. This type of chemistry is rare in the age of the transfer portal and the culture built by Ed Orgeron in Baton Rouge appears to be one of the best in the country.
The hype is there surrounding Brennan and the expectations are through the roof after a 15-0 season that ended with a national championship. The 2020 season will have a different feel, but LSU fans will be holding Brennan to his words about being such a strong leader.
