Trevor Lawrence and Spencer Rattler are Heisman favorites.

As a great deal of uncertainty surrounds the upcoming college football season this fall, the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 are all still committed to moving ahead with their fall schedule. But other conferences, such as the Big Ten and Pac-12, have decided that it is too risky to move ahead with the season due to COVID-19 and canceled fall sports.

Since two major conferences have canceled football this fall, it means that some players will not have an opportunity for a breakout season that takes them all the way to the Heisman trophy, like Joe Burrow in 2019.

Although conferences that have canceled fall sports could play in the spring, the Heisman trophy will still be awarded after the fall season. And it will have to go to someone who was able to play then.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is now the Heisman favorite after Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields was removed after the Big Ten postponed their season to the winter.

Without Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields in the mix, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler are the top two Heisman favorites heading into the season.

Updated betting odds from Bet Online on the Heisman Trophy have been updated to remove Big Ten and Pac-12 candidates.

  1. Trevor Lawrence, Clemson, QB 2/1
  2. Spencer Rattler, Oklahoma, QB 9/1
  3. D’Eriq King, Miami, QB 14/1
  4. Myles Brennan, LSU, QB 14/1
  5. Sam Ehlinger, Texas, QB 14/1
  6. Jamie Newman, Georgia, QB 16/1
  7. Mac Jones, Alabama, QB 16/1
  8. Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State, RB 20/1
  9. Ian Book, Notre Dame, QB 20/1
  10. Sam Howell, North Carolina, QB 20/1
  11. Bo Nix, Auburn, QB 25/1
  12. Kyle Trask, Florida, QB 25/1
  13. Travis Etienne, Clemson, RB 25/1
  14. Najee Harris, Alabama, RB 30/1

In these odds, Lawrence is far and away the favorite, clocking in at a 2/1 shot to win.

He is then followed by another quarterback in Rattler who comes in at 9/1 odds.

And since Lawrence has two years of experience already under his belt, along with a national championship victory, he is favored over Rattler who is a very talented dual-threat quarterback but has only attempted 11 passes so far in his college career.

Lawrence was the Heisman favorite entering into last season but was beaten out by Burrow who had an absolutely amazing breakout season. It is still possible that something like that could occur, but if not it seems like Lawrence will take home the Heisman trophy after entering the season as the favorite.
