Kentucky hoops picks up first commit of 2021 class

John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats are on the board for 2021 with point guard Nolan Hickman committing on Saturday. 

Kentucky head coach John Calipari knows what it takes to win some big-time recruiting battles with teams across the country. This was once again showcased on Saturday, with the Wildcats coming out on top to land a touted point guard.

Indeed, 4-star prospect Nolan Hickman took to Twitter to announce his college commitment, letting everyone know he’ll be taking his talents to Lexington and has joined the team’s 2021 commitment list. Hickman is actually verbal pledge No. 1 for Kentucky’s ’21 class.

This is a big get for Calipari and his coaching staff, as Hickman is ranked one of the top point guards in the land. The No. 3 point guard for his class, Hickman committed to Kentucky over additional offers from Oklahoma, Arizona, Kansas, UCLA, Washington and several other programs.

“Kentucky has always been a dream school for me,” Hickman told Josh Gershon of 247Sports. “I grew up watching them. I love the system. The second Coach Cal (Calipari) and (Tony) Barbee reached out it just felt like I was wanted and it was home. It is where I need to be to get to the next level.”

The Wildcats did a strong job recruiting Hickman from start to finish, which proved to help make a monster difference in landing his verbal. Hickman also has dreams of one day playing in the NBA. Calipari is known for sending his players to the next level.

Kentucky’s ’21 haul has kicked off with an absolute bang. Now, Calipari and his assistants will look to bring in more talented players to join Hickman. Get excited, Wildcats fans.
