LeBron James pays tribute to Kobe Bryant with old birthday clip (video)

In honor of Kobe Bryant’s birthday, LeBron James posts a throwback video

Members of the sports community and the NBA, are pouring their hearts out in tributes and messages to Kobe Bryant, who would have turned 42 on this day. LeBron James, another basketball great who has been a competitor and an Olympic teammate to Bryant, shared an old piece of footage to join in on the celebration.

Bryant was killed in a tragic helicopter crash in January that also took the life of his daughter, Gianna, as well as Payton and Sarah Chester; Alyssa, Keri and John Altobelli; Christina Mauser and Ara Zobayan.

Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s wife and Gianna’s mother, sent out her own heartfelt message on social media, in which she says she misses Kobe and Gianna but celebrated their lives and Kobe’s legacy on and off the court.

Many others joined in on the emotional tributes for Bryant’s birthday, including the NBA and WNBA and their athletes, as well as the Lakers and James.

For his tribute and birthday message, James posted an old piece of footage taken while he and Bryant were teammates as part of the gold medal-winning U.S. basketball team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

James speaks up and announces that he and everyone gathered were going to sing for Bryant, who was turning 30 at the time.

The Lakers will honor Bryant’s birthday and memory tomorrow with special “Black Mamba” jerseys as part of Game 4 of their first-round playoff series with the Portland Trail Blazers.

In addition, the Los Angeles Dodgers are honoring Kobe and Gianna Bryant as part of pre-game festivities today prior to their matchup with the Colorado Rockies.
