Boston is weeping at Mookie Betts’ success with the Los Angeles Dodgers

This past winter, the Boston Red Sox were unwillingly to agree to a long-term contract extension with star outfielder Mookie Betts. Once the team began fielding trade offers for Betts’ services, the overwhelming expectation was that he’d end up with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Of course, that’s exactly what happened, and then signed him to a massive 12-year contract before the start of the MLB season.

How has that worked out for the Dodgers so far? Pretty well, actually!

In Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Betts mashed a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning off starter Antonio Senzatela to break a 1-1 tie. Not only did that break the deadlock, but it was officially Betts’ 10th homer of the season, making him the first Dodger to reach double-digits.

Betts trade working out well for the Dodgers

Entering the Sunday contest, Betts is slashing .286/.359/.610 with 30 hits and 21 RBI.

The Dodgers have shown in recent years that they’re more than willing to bring in top-tier talents to make a push for a World Series title. They did just that in 2018 by acquiring then-Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, but the team fell short of the goal after falling to, ironically, the Red Sox in the Fall Classic.

With Los Angeles’ championship window closing, the Dodgers decided to pry it open by securing the former AL MVP. It did come at the expense of Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs, Connor Wong and $365 million, but the Dodgers aren’t complaining right now.

Betts turned out to be just what the Dodgers needed, while the jilted and miserable Red Sox fanbase watches their team claim residence at the bottom of the MLB standings.
