5 teams that should be calling the Kings about Buddy Hield
By Mike Luciano
The Nuggets always end up near the top of the Western Conference, as Mike Malone always has Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray playing out of their minds near the end of the regular season. Despite the fact that Denver has been the No. 2 and No. 3 seed in the West in back-to-back seasons, few considered them true title contenders. They proved those doubters emphatically right by losing to Portland in the conference semifinals last year and going down 3-1 to the No. 6 seed Utah Jazz. If they lose to Utah, they need to shake things up, and trading for Hield could give the Nuggets quite a boost on the outside.
Denver’s depth at several positions is admirable, but they need a tertiary scorer that has more sizzle than Paul Millsap or Will Barton. Adding Hield would allow Murray to run point while giving Denver an experienced gunner on the outside who Jokic can feed late in big games. The Nuggets’ roster has enough moving parts to withstand the grind of an 82-game season, but they keep coming up short when the chips are down. Hield going to Denver and a package of players going to the Kings might finally give Denver legitimate hope for a championship.
