Ronald Acuña leaves Sunday Night Baseball with hamstring tightness
Ronald Acuña left Sunday’s game early as a precaution.
The Atlanta Braves put up 10 runs in the second inning of Sunday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies responded with one run in the bottom of the inning followed by six more in the third. So a potential blowout turned into a close game.
One storyline Braves fans with have their attention on has to do with Ronald Acuña Jr. The young star left the slugfest early due what was is being described as a precaution.
Ronald Acuña raises concerns Sunday night
This may raise some alarms for Braves fans. Acuña has already missed time this season with a wrist injury and now his hamstring is causing problems. He missed two weeks in August and a new potential injury showing up could mean more time away from the team.
The 2018 National League Rookie of the Year is only slashing .256/.376/.526 this season with five home runs. However, this is still technically just over one month into the year so everyone’s stats must be looked at through a different lens.
The Braves have been dealing with Acuña missing time this season and have still jumped out to a lead in the NL East. In fact, the Braves are the only team in the division above .500 at the moment. The Phillies can reach that mark, and gain a game in the standings, with a win Sunday.
Directly saying Acuña was removed as a precaution provides a bit of hope for fans that this isn’t serious. That doesn’t take away from the general disappointment surrounding the young star so far in 2020. The good news is he has the month of September, given this hamstring tightness doesn’t turn into a real injury, to turn things around ahead of the postseason.
